Implementing Employee Commuting Emissions Reporting

Government emissions legislation

1. Explain the Need

Implementing commuting emissions reporting takes thought. Explain why the need to report employee commuting emissions.  In some cases, your customers might require it as part of the sales or tender process.  It may be a requirement of a government contract, as with PPN 06/21. It may be a desire on the organisation's behalf to state it's beliefs.

Increasingly, employees are concerned about the impact of climate change.  Helping them to feel part of the process will encourage increased participation in the survey process, The greater the number of of survey responses, the greater the credibility of the reported emissions.

2. Express the Benefits

One of the benefits of GHGi Commuting is that your employees will learn what their emissions from commuting and homeworking really are.  Many people find this is really useful information.

For the organisation it can help it to decide what can be put in place to support employees wishing to reduce their emissions.

These could be things like workplace showers and secure cycle stores.  Charging points for battery electric cars, perhaps at a discounted rate, to encourage uptake.  The ability to charge electric cycles and scooters is another option.
